Waterproofing house walls is a very important area to pay attention to when performing waterproofing services for construction projects. The project is exposed to continuous rain and sun, and will be susceptible to leaks, mold and serious damage from the inside out if the wall waterproofing step is not done properly from the beginning.

The cause of wall seepage can be due to many reasons:

  • The design and construction process of the project was not standardized from the beginning.
  • The initial waterproofing stage for the project was either not done or not done according to standard methods.
  • The materials used to initially waterproof the wall were of poor quality, and the acceptance work did not meet the requirements.
  • The project is old and not maintained...

Because it is the outermost layer of a construction project, in direct contact with the outside environment, waterproofing the walls of the house is extremely important. If this step is not done well, it can cause many consequences such as:

  • The quality and structure of the building deteriorates rapidly: peeling and cracking of the concrete. It is a warning sign that your home's construction is deteriorating and contains hidden risks that cause unpredictable dangers.
  • The project will lose its aesthetics: Concrete cracks, yellow stains and even moss will cause the building to lose its aesthetics, immediately affecting the taste of the project owner.
  • When walls become moldy, it will be harmful to health: A long-term humid environment is a favorable condition for mold and bacteria to multiply, causing respiratory diseases such as rhinitis, sinusitis, and skin fungus. …
  • Potential risk of fire and explosion: Electrical outlets or wall-mounted electrical equipment are considered safe, however, when exposed to water for a long time, it will lead to damage, reducing the durability of electronic items in the house. : TV, refrigerator, washing machine...

1. Waterproofing old walls

To waterproof old walls, we must first clean the wall surface, scrape off the old lime layer and wash it. If the wall is waterproof, we must treat it for waterproofing and then apply putty and paint. If done carefully, the waterproofing effect will be 100% complete.

Thorough method of waterproofing old walls

Step 1: Scrape off the old peeling paint from the wall surface, use an iron brush to clean off layers of moss, if any. If you don't clean the old wall, the waterproof paint on the wall can easily peel and blister, and the quality is not guaranteed.

Step 2: Use waterproof glue to fill cracks and gaps in the wall due to subsidence or the environment.

Step 3: Apply 2 or more layers with specialized waterproof paints such as Kova, Sika. Note that painting should only be done when the surface is clean and dry, then the quality will be durable and guaranteed.

The final step can be painting the color according to the homeowner's decorative preferences. You can refer to beautiful imitation stone paint here.

2. How to waterproof newly built walls

When the construction is completed, the investor should immediately carry out waterproofing, which is most reasonable. Once the newly built wall is dry, it is plastered, polished and cleaned.

Then use waterproof paints on outdoor walls, also known as waterproof glue on the outside surface. These types of glue have advantages such as excellent waterproofness, high elasticity, ease of application as well as long life, and especially low and reasonable price.

Wall waterproofing needs to be done on both internal and external walls to achieve the best results.

3. Waterproofing the base of the wall

The cause of wall seepage can be due to rainwater seeping in from outside, or due to moisture rising up from the tile grout. And a common cause is due to leaking water supply and drainage systems for the kitchen and toilet areas.

- Waterproof the base of the house's walls with Kova waterproof paint and Sika waterproofing products

- Waterproofing the base of the wall by injecting Foam in reverse:

  • If the wall is old, moldy, or peeling, you should dig out the mortar areas, then shoot Foam in and re-plaster.
  • For new walls, use a 10mm drill bit to drill directly in and use a Foam gun to shoot through those drilled holes.
